My first weeks in distance learning

anaibis

Three months ago, I decided to return to school to obtain the Doctor of Education in Instructional Technology and Distance Education at Nova Southeaster University. After teaching for a year and a half using remote life instruction, I convinced myself that distance learning is the future of education around the world. Therefore, I decided that I needed to increase my knowledge in the use of technology and distance learning. This program perfectly fit what I was looking for. But not only that it was also a full online program which would allow me to study at my own pace from the commodity of my house.

The first two weeks were difficult. The courses required lot of my attention. It was not only to submit assignments like we usually do in face-to face instruction. But it was also to ask questions on other students’ wall and to answer questions to those who had asked questions on my wall. This was totally new to me. By the beginning of the third week I started feeling more confident about the learning system. I realized the advantaged of this form. Course materials like syllabus, course announcements, course calendar, lesson videos or even future assignments are always available for students.

After five weeks, I have begun to enjoy my classes. I have organized myself in the way I can turn all assignments on time so I can spend time with my family and friends. I am learning to do things I never thought I would be able to do. One of them is writing this blog. Since I am not a writing person, this task has been a challenge. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed doing it and I hope readers enjoy it as well.

Great assessment of your first days in the NSU Instructional Technology Distance Education (ITDE) program. The learning curve may be steep, but the climb to the summit well worth the time and effort. Our ITDE degree with open doors you may or may not have realized were out there. We as ITDEers are found in K-12, Higher Education, Business/Industry, and Government/Military education/training environments. We are ones involved in strategic planning, needs assessment & analysis, course (program) design & development, and certainly evaluation for continuous improvement to process and for end result. Our focus is on the learning and learning - with result in improved performance. I enjoyed being able to reply to your blog!
